For this role the actor had to increase his weight up to 185 pounds!
Despite this impressive number, Alex’s desire to achieve new goals was so strong, that he lost 45 pounds for a new role.
To play the role of a young surfer, Alex Meraz had to muscle down. His role presupposed that he should have look slim, but not sporting.
The actor played a man who was accused of drug transportation and selling. It meant that as a prisoner, Alex should have looked slim and a bit skinny, and no hint on a gym workout.
Therefore, Meraz didn’t work with heavy weights – he stopped lifting and emphasized on cardio exercises. To enforce the result, Alex reduced the portions of his meals.
