In Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” Murphy skillfully depicted the legendary physicist and “father of the atomic bomb”.

Since entering the Hollywood mainstream after the role of Dr. Crane in “Batman Begins” in 2005, Cillian seems not to age at all. Still, he passed some transformations to portray Oppenheimer. Read further to know!

Cillian Murphy names himself as “pure undiluted Cork”. His father, Brendan Murphy, served as an inspector at the Department of Education, while his mother was a French teacher. Cillian spent his childhood years with three younger siblings: Sile, Orla, and Paidi.

Murphy is a gifted actor, but his route to it was circuitous. He studied law at the University College Cork and took drama classes at Pat Kiernan School. But then his main passion was music. Being obsessed with the Beatles, Cillian co-founded the rock band “Sons of Mr. Greengenes” with his younger brother.

He named the band after the eponymous song of his teen idol Frank Zappa, the American rock musician. Cillian thought about a career as a rock star for a while but then chose acting with the great support of his parents, who were afraid to lose their sons in the wild world of rock music.

In 1996, he unexpectedly won the role in Enda Walsh’s play “Disco Pigs”. Then he featured in the film adaptation of this play. Later Cillian appeared in such hit movies as “Cold Mountain”, “The Dark Knight”, “Dunkirk” and many others.

Murphy’s talent was proved by a string of awards, the most prominent of which was the Golden Globe nomination for the comedy-drama “Breakfast on Pluto” in 2006.

Cillian spends his free time with his wife Yvonne McGuinness (the visual artist) and their two sons, Malachy and Carrick.

The Irish actor became a sensation in Hollywood in 2002, when he appeared fully nude in the film “28 Days Later”. His ideally shaped body caught lots of public attention to him. Till now Cillian is a magnet for young girls worldwide.

To maintain that ideal shape, for fifteen years Murphy was a vegetarian. He quit vegetarianism in 2017, as he considered himself “too skinny”, but later returned to this food system. Cillian started eating meat because he wanted to gain some muscle mass for the role of Tommy Shelby in the drama series “Peaky Blinders”.

Like many other actors, he passes through some body transformations to look more convincing depicting certain film characters. Thus, his hero J. Robert Oppenheimer, who died from cancer in 1967, was incredibly lean. Murphy kept to a strict diet to lose weight for that role. According to his Oppenheimer co-star Emily Blunt, he ate just a handful of almonds daily while filming.

Cillian’s aesthetically appealing look made him the favorite hero of many glossy magazines. Thus, he appeared in the English version of Playboy and was named one of the 50 best-dressed people by CQ in 2015.
